Zulu's dam line has been notoriously quick to mature. So when she was the smallest, least impressive of the coming two year olds, I really questioned why I was keeping her. Fast forward to her kidding, and I was still unenthused. There wasn't anything wrong with her, but there wasn't anything exceptional either. Boy did she prove me wrong.
A few months into her first lactation, Zulu took a huge growth spurt. Then her milk production took off. And all of a sudden, she blossomed into this smooth, capacious, beautiful doe. In the months since, she just continues to look better and better. Even as we've switched to once a day milking, she still comes in full and shows off those attachments every single day. I'm not sure where Zulu will end up, but I will make sure it's somewhere she can reach her full potential. This is another one of those once in a lifetime does. |
